Brian the Bad Movie Guy's Double Sized, Big Assed, Horror DVDs for October 6th!
It's officially October, which means that finally, I get one month where people don't give me weird looks for wearing my costume around! Now, if we could only do something about the other 11 months, I mean, seriously, what's so wrong about dressing like Michael Myers and hanging around the mall? Is that some kind of crime? Well, the local police say it is...so I really look forward to October! And, there's also the bonus that it's a great month for horror DVD, so let's see how we'll be starting the scariest month of the year.

Warner Home Video gets us started with the long awaited TRICK 'R' TREAT. This has been anticipated since last Halloween and now we get to see this supposedly cool anthology movie that takes the normal Halloween threats (check your candy, don't put out the jack o'lantern before midnight, etc.) and make them truly frightening! I, for one, am looking forward to seeing if the reality lives up to the hype.

Fans of occult TV will be happy with Vivendi Entertainment today, as they release BLOOD TIES SEASON 2. Vicky Nelson and Henry Fitzroy are back and they're still being drawn into bizarre cases and facing occult menaces...oh, and Henry's a 480 year old vampire...so it's like Twilight meets Moonlighting!

Those are a bit too new for you? Then rejoice! Warner Home Video is also releasing KARLOFF AND LUGOSI HORROR CLASSICS today. You'll get THE WALKING DEAD, FRANKENSTEIN 1970 which has Frankenstein in the faaarrr fuuutuuure, there's also YOU'LL FIND OUT in which I think we'll find out and ZOMBIES ON BROADWAY which finds the living dead learning Fosse moves...I think.

THE GATE from Lionsgate has three kids accidentally releasing some nasty little demons from a hole in their backyard. Now they have to battle them to keep them from taking over the Earth! Isn't it always the way, you let the kids play in the backyard and the next thing you know, there are demons trying to take over the planet!

Fans of Takashi Miike's AUDITION (of which I'm one) will be happy to know that Shout! Factory is releasing is giving us a high definition version of this very cool, weirdly deceptive movie. Finally, we'll get to see what the hell is in that bag in high definition.

If you love movies about babies, then you'll probably like IT'S ALIVE from First Look Pictures. This remake of the 70s classic has Bijou Phillips as the pregnant girl who gives birth to a man eating monster! I haven't seen this remake yet, but if you're talking about man eating babies...count me in!!!

And if you like your kids a bit older (you perv) then Lionsgate is bringing us THE CHILDREN today. When a happy family heads out for a lovely winter vacation the kids pick up what seems to be the flu. But don't worry; it's not that damned H1N1, this virus turns the kids into killers and now the parents find themselves fighting for their lives. You see, I keep telling everyone, kids are nothing but trouble!

Like horror but you find that it's not animated enough for you? Then Phase 4 Films will make you happy by giving you TALES FROM THE CRYPTKEEPER: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON and THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON today. This animated version of HBO's frightful host will tell you tales of terror...for a younger crowd.

THE THAW from Lionsgate is a tale of global warming. Only we shouldn't be afraid of the ice melting, we should be afraid of what's inside the ice that's thawing out! It's a prehistoric parasite and if the scientists working at the research station that discovered it don't quarantine themselves it could infect the rest of the world. Did I hear someone say 'turn on each other', I think you might be right!

Fans of George Romero will be interested in knowing that his son has a new movie out. It's STAUNTON HILL from Anchor Bay and it's sure to be a good one. It's 1969 and a group of kids is on the way to Washington for a protest rally. When their bus breaks down near the Staunton homestead...and I guess the Staunton's don't take to visitors, because soon the kids are being rips apart! Which is what I usually do to visitors to my homestead...which is why I don't get many visitors.

Fans of Thomas Jane will want to check out his directorial debut, it's DARK COUNTRY from Sony Pictures. When two honeymooners rescue a car crash victim in the desert near Las Vegas, their lives are turned upside down when their victim becomes a predator. When he makes the couple do unthinkable things, they have to take drastic action to cover their tracks before the police find them, as they hunt the man who started all this. Sounds a bit like The Hitcher to me.

Grizzly Peak Films is taking us to the FEEDING GROUNDS today. A group of friends head out to a cabin in the desert (always a bad idea) only to learn that something has landed in the desert and it's hungry...and in the desert, I'm assuming that groups of friends are good things to eat.

So you say you like Jim Carrey, but you hate comedy? Well, New Line Home Video has good news for you! THE NUMBER 23 hit blu-ray today. Carrey plays an animal control officer who gets a book called 'The Number 23' that seems to parallel his own life! The only issue is that the people in the book become obsessed with the number 23 and then die. Which bodes no good when he, too, becomes obsessed with the number!

Lionsgate takes us to China for SEVENTH MOON. The story of a couple honeymooning in China during the seventh lunar month...and bad things begin to happen! And, as Americans in China, when things get bad, they're bound to get very bad!

R Squared Films wants you to BLEED WITH ME today. After a long night of tending bar, Laura doesn't feel like taking the bus home, so she hails a cab. As she rides home, her long night is about to get longer...and worse! My guess is that someone is going to bleed...with me.

Lionsgate is releasing OFFSPRING today, which finds the survivors of a cannibalistic family happening on a tourist family...and I think someone's going to be invited for dinner!!

Anchor Bay is giving us the SyFy Channel's remake of CHILDREN OF THE CORN today. This remake of the 80s classic is said to be closer in tone to the Steven King story. These King remakes haven't been all bad, so I'm expecting good things from this remake, plus this has 'graphic footage not seen on TV', so any time you include graphic footage, I'm on board!

Well Go USA is making things SENSELESS today. When an American economist is kidnapped by a group of radicals, his capture is broadcast on TV every day. Eventually, he begins hurting himself to try to understand the reason for his kidnapping. Senseless is said to deal with the 'mechanisms of the capitalist system', so be prepared for a bit of political content, I'm sure.

THE SEAMSTESS from Image Entertainment is sure to keep you in stitches...sorry, I couldn't resist that! The Seamstress is a local legend, who turns out to be true! She's accidentally released on an unsuspecting community by Allie and her friends as they search for Allie's missing father, and, armed with sewing needles she's about to do something very painful to watch! My guess is that no inseam will be left unmeasured.

Halloween's not your favorite holiday? Then Razor Digital Entertainment is bringing a different holiday to shelves today, it's A DEADLY LITTLE CHRISTMAS. When the Merriman family is slaughtered by 8 year old Devin, they just think it's the worst Christmas ever. Now, 15 years later, Devin has escaped the asylum and he'll be home for Christmas...if only with his knife!

Alliance Canada is putting the remake of THE HITCHER on blu-ray today. Haven't had the chance to catch this one yet, but can you really replace Rutger Hauer with Sean Bean? Really?

When a famous psychiatrist heads to Sedah State Hospital to treat its mental patients, he doesn't know that some of them are CRAZY AS HELL. First Look Pictures gives us this story that takes a weird turn when one of the patients claims to be Satan...and he just might be!

Phase 4 Films is bringing us out of horror-land for a minute for 6TEEN: DUDE OF THE LIVING DEAD, a Cartoon Network movie about 6 teens who hit the mall, only to find it full of zombies! Hardcore zombie fans will probably want this, but hardcore horror fans need not apply.

In First Look Pictures, KING OF THE ANTS, a handyman is hired by a corrupt contractor to stalk a public official to get some 'dirt' on him. When the plan backfires, the handyman is taken to a remote building site, tortured and left for dead. When he lives, he nurses himself back to health and plots his revenge. This proves my theory...all contractors want to torture you!

Scotchworthy Productions wants to tell us all that IT'S MY PARTY AND I'LL DIE IF I WANT TO today. Sara and her friends are celebrating her 18th birthday, but they've made a critical mistake in inviting Evil to the party...and, we all know, that Evil always brings uninvited guests...and then people die...Evil is a really buzz-kill!

The Weinstein Company gives us HALLOWEEN SPECIAL EDITION today. This 2 disc special edition features the movie and all the extras that you could want. Most people hated this remake, but I kind of liked it...let the hate emails begin!

THE RETURN from Alliance Canada is the story of a woman on a business trip. She's haunted by violent visions of a murder and decides to stop and visit her father. But, visiting the small town where she grew up only increases the visions strength. No she has to find out more about the visions and solve the murder in order to stop them. Visions, you can't tell people you have them, they'll all think you're crazy...and I speak from experience here!

SPLATTER MOVIE: DIRECTOR'S CUT from Sub Rosa Studios is a movie within a movie...within a movie. This is the story of a low budget movie shoot. There's also a documentary crew filming the movie shoot. And, let's not forget the maniac that's staking both films! This is one of those critically acclaimed Indies that really needs to be seen! So, why are you still reading this?!? Go buy it!!

Sub Rosa Studios also puts I SPIT CHEW ON YOUR GRAVE on shelves today. This exploitation parody has a group of mystical whores raping the wrong man (is there a right man to rape? Can you really rape a man?), now he's on the vengeance trail! Just the tag line, "Just keep telling yourself it's only a shitty b-movie!" had me hooked, but then they went an added "rape had never been so hilarious" and now I have to grab this up!

SHOPPING FOR FANGS from Pathfinder Home Entertainment is two intersecting tales involving Asian-Americans. Katherine is an unhappy wife who suffers blackouts and begins receiving strange calls from a lesbian and Katherine's husband Jim works with a man who believes that he's a werewolf...the two are on a collision course that will reveal their true natures...which I'm assuming has something to do with a very hairy lesbian.

Well Go USA is taking us to school today with HORROR 101, a 4 movie set which includes, DEATH OF A GHOST HUNTER, which finds a ghost hunter investigating paranormal activity in the house of a dead minister...wonder how it ends. MURDER LOVES KILLERS TOO has Aggie and her friends partying in the woods, until Big Stevie shows up, he's a lunatic who has a lust for sex and murder...and Aggie finds herself attracted to him! Hope we're not invited to that party. BENEATH THE SURFACE finds a high school student in love, but when his love is killed what's a kid to do? Yep, raise her from the dead! And finally there's ZOMBIES ANONYMOUS, when a young woman is shot and finds herself still alive, she has to face her own un-dead-ness. So, she joins Zombies Anonymous to help her cope with her zombie-osity.

In Celebrity Video Distribution's HIDE AND CREEP, the residents of a small town have to cope with zombies, flying saucers and bad TV reception...I can face anything except bad TV reception!!!
And last, but certainly not least, Shriek Show is bringing us WICKED LAKE today, which comes with the Wicked Lake soundtrack! This is the tale of 4 hot chicks who head to a lakeside cabin for a fun weekend. They have no idea that the cabin is already populated with two clans of deranged dudes! And, as the dudes stalk the chicks, midnight strikes and then all hell breaks loose...literally! So, it's a cool movie and a cool soundtrack, win/win.
Well, that should get you through the first week of October, and if it doesn't then, for God's sake, get a job or something! So, let's all agree to meet back here next week, when I'll be wearing a different costume...and let me tell you, this level of Halloween commitment isn't easy, have you ever trying to rake leaves dressed as Freddy Krueger? That glove make is an arduous task, let me tell you! Until then, I'll be dressed as an indie film reviewer over at Rogue Cinema.com and I'll be dressed as myself (which is far more scary than you can imagine) over at Bad Movie Guy.com and I'm here every week to find out what hits shelves on horror DVD at FearZone!
