Happy, Happy Halloween...Silver Shamrock, to you all! That's right, it's the Tuesday before the 'big day' and I know all the ghouls and goblins are primed and ready to haunt the living hell out of everyone this Saturday. But, before you put on that mask and grab that pillowcase you want to fill with candy, how about something to put you in the mood? That's right, you have 3 more days before you can legally start trick or treating, so why not head down to the video store and grab a special treat? Here's what you have to choose from today.
Sony Pictures is releasing the classic, NIGHT OF THE CREEPS today on special edition and blu-ray. In 1959, an alien experiment infected a fraternity member, but they froze him so everything was okay. Now, two geeks who are pledging the frat have thawed out the corpse and it's infecting everyone and turning them into zombies! If you're in the mood for some 80s horror, then run, don't walk to get this one!
Want something that will linger with you? Then Warner Home Video is giving us ORPHAN today, the tale of a little orphan girl who's adopted by a loving family. Except our little orphan has a secret and I'm pretty sure that the body count will start rising any minute! Catch this one, and then look those trick or treaters in the eye...I dare you!
What about something a bit more low brow. Lowest Common Denominator Entertainment is gifting us with the BLACK DEVIL DOLL today. When an Ouija board re-animates the soul of a recently executed black militant in a doll, things are going to get very ugly! Can you say Chucky's African American Friend? I thought that you could.
Blue Underground is putting the 'classic' THE LIVING DEAD AT MANCHESTER MORGUE on blu-ray for all of us today. A couple traveling into a small town find that it's infested with the living dead. Now they have to figure out what's causing the outbreak and stay alive long enough to solve the problem! Also known as Let Sleeping Corpses Lie and Don't Open The Window, this is one of those classic zombie movies that everyone has seen...and will want on blu-ray.
Anchor Bay is breaking the tension with a bit of horror-comedy, it's STAN HELSING. Stan is a video clerk making a delivery before heading to a Halloween party. But, when he and his friends get trapped at the Stormy Night Estates, things get weird. With parodies of famous movie monsters like Freddy, Jason and Leatherface, this one could be a huge bloody laugh riot for all of us horror fans!
Code Red brings back the dead with MESSIAH OF EVIL: THE SECOND COMING, the 1974 classic. A woman travels to a small town only to find that the people that populate it are a bit strange. Are they zombies? Well, you'll have to grab this yourself to find out. This is one of those 70s horror movies that's gained cult status for a reason and is worth checking out!
What do you get when you gather 6 of the world's leading comic and graphic artists? Well, you get MPI Home Entertainment's FEAR(S) OF THE DARK, a creepy and beautiful animated anthology that's sure to make your skin crawl. And who says cartoons can't be for adults?
In Long Island, in 1978 the police were forced to shoot Mary Mattock, a girl who had murdered her whole family with a hatchet. Now, when a group of teenagers gather to celebrate the anniversary of her death, Mary may come to the party! That's the story of Chaos Squared's BLOOD NIGHT: THE LEGEND OF MARY HATCHET. It's sort of like Bloody Mary...only she's got an axe!
Hen's Tooth Video is releasing the 1972 film, THE ASPHYX today. The Asphyx is an apparition that appears at your death, and an amateur scientist who dabbles in psychic phenomenon thinks that if he can capture one, he can become immortal. My guess is that asphyx's don't like to be captured and that things will probably get ugly.
In Vivendi Entertainment's THE BUTCHER, a group of people have been abducted and find themselves bound on the floor of an abandoned slaughterhouse. Now, we all know that no good can come from this, don't we? A team of snuff film producers are nearby and I think that a movie is about to be made! Told entirely through two POV cameras, The Butcher is J-Horror at it grisliest!
In Synapse Films, NIGHT OF DEATH!, a new nurse is hired to work at Deadlock House, a lovely little retirement home. But, as the lodgers seems to be getting stranger and the employees begin disappearing, our nurse is about to discover the secret of Deadlock House...and she may not live to tell anyone what it is. Is it just me, or is naming an old folks home, Deadlock House, just a bit odd?
There's going to be a GRAVEYARD DISTURBANCE, thanks to Mya Communication. Five friends are on the run from the law and find themselves in a spooky old inn. When the innkeeper tells them about a fabulous treasure in the catacombs underneath a nearby church, the friends decide to spend the night there. Who can count backward from 5? Because I think we'll be doing that soon.
In DEAD AIR from Anthem Pictures, the coolest DJ on the west coast is put to the test after a terrorist bio-attack unleashes a ton of flesh eating maniacs. He might not be a shock-jock, he might be a jock that goes into shock!
Kino International is bringing us I CAN SEE YOU today, the story of some ad execs who take a weekend trip to the wilderness to brainstorm a new campaign for a once popular cleaning product. But, when their equipment begins having weird technical problems and ghost start to appear, they begin to have a break with reality! And, if you grab this DVD, you'll also get THE VIEWER, a new 3D short from director Graham Reznick. So, it's like a buy one, get one thing...which is always good!
Anthem Pictures is giving us the sequel to Deadlands: The Rising today, it's DEADLANDS 2: TRAPPED. In this sequel, the government has unleashed a nerve gas on the residents of a small town. The gas begins turning the unsuspecting citizens into zombies, and now only 6 people are left and they find themselves trapped in the local Cineplex, forced to hold off the flesh eating masses. Trapped in a theatre?! This sounds like a little slice of heaven to me, bar the doors and start making popcorn!
MPI Home Video is taking us back in time for SAUNA, as two explorers are charting the border between Russia and Finland in 1595. When the two leave a girl to a particularly brutal death, they begin to feel guilty and the girl begins to haunt them. Now, they've found a village that has a sauna that will wash away your sins. My guess is that it's going to wash away quite a bit more!
In 1974's EVIL FACE from Mya Communication, a girl has been disfigured in a laboratory fire. Now, her professor husband is attempting to restore her beauty with experimental skin grafts...but he needs some skin from some beautiful young girls. Since the professor is played by Klaus Kinski, my guess is that the chicks are hot and that they're not volunteers! This could get good...and creepy!
Mondo Macabre is bringing us 'the world's first Islamic horror movie' today. It's BORN OF FIRE and it's being compared to El Topo. When a musician finds that he's unable to complete a performance because of visions of fire and destruction, a beautiful stranger sets him on a journey to a remote part of Turkey for the answer. And we all know, nothing good ever happens in Turkey!
In BREAKING NIKKI from Redemption Films, a hooker is hired to play the part of a client's ex-wife. But, she soon finds herself trapped in a sick game that's running out of control. Ex-wife, hooker, my guess is that someone's going to be dead soon!
Shriek Show is charging us a LATE FEE today! When a young couple set out on a quest to rent the scariest movie ever, they'll soon find that their lives are becoming a horror. This happens every time I rent a movie...no, wait, I mean that the video clerk scares me.
In X-CROSS from Tokyo Shock, a girl and her best friend take a lovely trip to the country. But, when they come across a cult with a fetish for cutting of female legs, I don't think the two will be left with a leg to stand on...get it?
Tokyo Shock keeps the horror coming this week with GOD'S LEFT HAND, DEVIL'S RIGHT HAND, a young boy with the supernatural ability to dream about others evil intentions, has a dream about a man showing his daughter a picture book. Now, that wouldn't be so evil, except the book is filled with pictures of women that the man has tortured to death! It shocks the boy so much that he dies, and now his sister has to solve the mystery and find the man from her brother's dreams. It's convoluted...and most J-Horror is...but it's bound to be a great movie!
Redemption Films has a great deal for us today, it's I BOUGHT A VAMPIRE MOTORCYCLE and it's the weirdest premise we have this week. When a Satanist biker is killed by a gang of Hells Angels in the middle of summoning an evil spirit, that spirit possesses his motorcycle. Now when a local courier buys it, he has no idea that the bike runs on blood and has a bad habit of killing Hells Angels...and anyone else who walks in front of it! It's like a biker movie...only without the bikers.
And, finally, let's use our imagination a little with ROTKAPPCHEN: THE BLOOD OF RED RIDING HOOD from Sparks Entertainment LLC. When Rose comes to America from Germany to live with her grandmother, she finds life a bit difficult in her new school. But, when she develops a crush on the big man on campus, that guy's girlfriend decides to make Rose's life more miserable than it already is. So, Rose withdraws into a book of fairy tales her grandmother gives her and soon discovers the power of her imagination. Shot on location in Europe and the U.S., this is a fairy tale for adults...so no one under 17 should be watching...so hands off kiddies.
Well, that should keep you happy until the 'big night', so until next week, remember that you can always find me with my sack full of indie movies over at Rogue Cinema.com and I'm always sitting in my recliner eating treats over at my own site, Bad Movie Guy.com. And remember too, that if you see a large man, in an ill fitting Jason Voorhees costume on your porch this Saturday, you better give him something good, or I WILL TP your house!

1. Angelina Leigh, one of the stars of ROTKAPPCHEN: THE BLOOD OF RED RIDING HOOD, also appears in SLIME CITY MASSACRE and just tole me they re-edited ROTKAPPCHEN into a porn film, which didn't exactly please her.
