German Set Visit: KARL THE BUTCHER VS AXE
October 05, 2009
by Tobias Piwek
Only four months after their last collaboration UNRATED - THE MOVIE, which just had its premier in Saarbruecken on October 10th, German splatter masters Andreas Schnaas (DEMONIUM) and Timo ROSE (BARRICADE) have teamed up again for a new project called KARL THE BUTCHER VS AXE. As the title hints, the film will mark the triumphant return of the machete-swinging madman Karl The Butcher, whom underground splatter fans will surely know as the demented villain of Schnaas' legendary VIOLENT SHIT series.
After half an eternity in hell, Karl The Butcher (Andreas Schnaas) does finally get a second chance and is send back to Earth, where he's got to end the reign of terror of a masked, blade-wielding psychopath named Axe (Timo Rose), who has taken Karl's place as the world's most brutal and ruthless killer and who is now spreading death and pain among the living together with his sexy sidekick Vendetta (Magdalena Alina Kalley).
Back on Earth, however, Karl The Butcher has to learn the hard way that the atrocities, which he committed years ago, are still far from being forgotten and all of a sudden he sees himself confronted not only by Axe and Vendetta, but also by a gang of fearless amazons (Eileen Daly, Eleanor James & Marysia Kay), two squads of hard-boiled headbangers (played by punk rockers Gang Loco and metal merchants Not Fragile) and last but not least all different kinds of armed-to-the-teeth mercenaries and bad-to-the-bone endtime warriors. In order to save his rotten skin and stay a chance against the seemingly infinite number of opponents, Karl ultimately sees no other way than to join forces with his nemesis Axe and henceforth give his enemies' hell as an unholy tag team from beyond. And so much is certain, when these two maniacs go bananas, the ancient art of butchery will be taken to a whole new axe-treme!!
So here you have it, fellow gorehounds and horror freaks, Germany's most infamous splatter film villain is finally back from the dead and this time he's not only more deadly and deranged than ever, but also does he have an equally fucked-up companion in tow... so in case of Schnaas and Rose's KARL THE BUTCHER VS AXE it's twice the madness, twice the carnage and twice the bloodshed. Or, to say it with the words of co-director Timo Rose, genre fans can already look forward to "a party movie with gallons of blood, guts and gore, nudity and thrills".
And that K-VS-X will indeed be a helluva cool and entertaining party flick is also the impression I got when I went to Langelsheim/Germany last month, where I spend two days on the set of said movie and played a small bit part as some kinda MAD MAX-like endtime warrior who gets his ass kicked by none other than the mighty Karl The Butcher himself. From what I've seen and heard there, I can assure you that this movie will not only be extremely well-made and feature a lot of cool stuff that you surely won't see often in a lowbudget effort (as e.g. explosions, tanks and crane shots), but that it'll also be the real freakin' deal when it comes to excessive, over-the-top use of gore and splatter effects. When Karl and Axe wield their rusty blades and go after their poor victims, heads will explode, brains will be cut to slices, body parts will be hacked off, gallons and gallons of blood will be spilled and people will be brutally butchered by the minute... gore galore, so to say!!
Principal photography on K-VS-X has already been finished a few weeks ago and a first teaser trailer can now be checked out at YouTube. So what are you waiting for, fellas? Grab a beer, switch your brain to splatter-mode and enjoy the madness!!
