Mario's Indie Horror Gallery: HILLBILLY-BOB ZOMBIE
October 22, 2009

HILLBILLY-BOB ZOMBIE (2009 dir Ray Basham)
Ray Basham Productions DVD
Recently premiered horror comedy from Ohio filmmaker Ray Basham is a story that takes place in a backwoods hillbilly portion of rural Ohio. A bearded redneck father (Sal Lizard) and his retarded son (Chris Burdulis) come across a toxic waste barrel in their neck of the woods on what appears to be a normal, sunny day when they're out looking for something that might help them with selling their moonshine. The two argue, bicker, and curse at each other a lot. Being too dumb to see the barrel they emptied out contains hazardous chemicals, they take it back to their place to use it as a still. Their hillbilly friends come over for an evening and they exchange dirty jokes and drink. The toxic materials from the barrel the father and son use starts to have bad side effects on their friends and folks around town. The townsfolk slowly turn into flesh eating zombies and soon the small rural Ohio town is engulfed in bloody, flesh ripping, entrail splattering mayhem and madness.
HILLBILLY-BOB ZOMBIE is a fun, Troma-like gore comedy with plenty of jokes and toilet humor as well lots of gut chomping, dismemberment, head explosions, and zombie gun blasting complete with federal agents getting involved at the end. Troma's Lloyd Kaufman also makes an appearance as a TV reporter.
HILLBILLY-BOB ZOMBIE is a movie that in one way or another may remind one of Pericles Lewnes's Troma-released 1987 classic REDNECK ZOMBIES with it's shot-on-video look, cheesy extreme gore, and the mix of toxic waste with hillbillies and zombies.
Also featured in the cast is Brenna Roth, up and coming indie horror actress who is quickly building up an impressive career with appearing this and other films like POULTRYGEIST, THE HORROR CONVENTION MASSACRE, FIST OF THE VAMPIRE, FRAT HOUSE MASSACRE, DOG, KILLER BIKER CHICKS, etc.
Extras on Ray Basham's DVD release of HILLBILLY-BOB ZOMBIE include funny interviews with Ray himself, Sal, Brenna, and star Danielle Webster, outtakes, and the film's trailer.
Those looking for a schlocky, micro budget hillbilly horror comedy with zombies, gore, toxic waste, and Lloyd Kaufman should head over to www.raybasham.com and order themselves a copy of HBBZ today!
