Last Call for Fear Zone: Where Do We Go From Here?

And here you have it: two and one third years of horror media/culture coverage on Fear Zone. As I noted a month ago, the fat lady has sung for this site -that bitch! Take a look at the menu to the left hand side of this screen and see just how many interviews, reviews, articles and news we posted in a relatively short period of time. We kicked horror ass! The site will remain live, with all of the content archived; we hope to re-launch whenever this damnable advertising market improves.

As noted throughout this month, many of our columnists and columns are moving elsewhere, which pleases me.

CINEMA KNIFE FIGHT, in which L.L. Soares and Michael Arruda are horror's answer to Siskel and Ebert, now has its own site.

THE EAST IS RED, in which Lisa Morton educates the rest of us on international horror, will continue in the monthly webzine THE BLACK GLOVE.

Mario Dominick (MARIO'S INDIE HORROR GALLERY) will now review the movies you've never heard of on HORROR YEARBOOK.

As for myself: SLIME CITY MASSACRE will play at film festivals and horror conventions throughout 2010; my werewolf novel THE FRENZY WAY will be published in June; and DESPERATE SOULS: THE JAKE HELMAN FILES, the first sequel to PERSONAL DEMONS, will be published in October. I'm too busy with my own projects to look for another editorial gig, and I doubt any could compare to the one that's just concluded. I may sneak a SCM post or two here before its premiere, so feel free to pop in from time to time for updates.

In addition to the sites I mentioned above, feel free to visit me at www.slimeguy.com, my Live Journal, and (shudder) Facebook.

But enough about us: where do you go for your latest horror news, reviews and interviews? Here's a list for your consideration:

HORROR YEARBOOK is one of the most entertaining horror sites on the web; just don't look for much coverage of horror literature (other than mine!), and don't be shocked by their most popular feature, "Horror Titties." HYB keeps horror fun.

FANGORIA and DREAD CENTRAL are regular stops on my daily horror train.

Monthly webzines DARK SCRIBE "magazine" and HORROR WORLD are two of the best venues around for horror literature coverage.

THE BLACK GLOVE covers horror lit, movies and TV.

RUE MORGUE and HORROR YEARBOOK feature my favorite forums.

And RUE MORGUE, FANGORIA, CEMETERY DANCE and BLACK STATIC remain my favorite print magazines. Please support print magazines.

Do you like to listen to horror? Then RUE MORGUE RADIO, FANGORIA RADIO, and DREAD MEDIA should be your first stops.

And for the best in small press horror lit, keep checking in with our friends at Creeping Hemlock Press. Right now they're offering their outstanding anthology CORPSE BLOSSOMS - normally $40.00 - for a mere fifteen bucks.

There's a lot of good horror out there, you just have to know where to look!

Happy holidays,
Greg Lamberson

1. Greg, That's sad news indeed. I'm confident though that "Fear Zone" will be back in all its glory sometime in the near future, and I'll be waiting. Thanks for putting together a great site, Ron

2. Really top notch site. One of the best. Kudos to Greg and all the writers involved. I have no doubt that this was only the first of the many lives that Fearzone will have.

3. Kudos for all you've done, Greg. Thanks for giving my column, "The State of the Genre," a home, and providing a stepping stone to writing the Internet Review of Science Fiction's first-ever monthly horror column.

4. Thanks, everyone. I'm just one cog in the Fear Zone machine; you all helped make the site what it is... was. I'm glad to see that so many columns, like Nick's "The State of the Genre," will continue on other sites and in other forms. Everybody have a safe and happy holiday season!

5. ********************************************************* This was meant to be completely heartfelt and humous! No offense intended to women, men, dogs or Kittens, Intended Offense Magazine, writers, filmmakers. moviegoers, cops, turtles, Hollywood Business Evecutives, Joe Bob Briggs, Roy Frumkes,The Muppets,Marty Feldman, Larry Fine, Horace Pinker... *or the like. Bryan Layne ******************************************************* BLASPHEMY! Fear Zone was genuinely one of my favorite Internet horror publications to contribute to and I was proud to be a part of the whole concept, as a well as being co-workers to the prevalent adept contributors. The webmasters and designers were some of the best in the business (aside of Tennessee's Rich Howell of Tennesse and Marcus Mevans, but I digress!) Greg is a good friend and I promised him I had way too much work to contribute to such a publication. I did promise him three articles and just out of acquaintances and my own personable liability I offered him one more piece before I jumped ship. I have contracts and financially obligations that took up most of my time dealing with film journalist articles in print. I've always avoided the Internet like the plague, ever since college, but Lamberson was a pal- as well a a student of a great friend of mine-- Greg payed for me to do the artcles with an infant website! A true man amongst children! I will miss Lamberson... and my good friend I made from Fear Zone L.L. Soares (PS- I want my knife back and, after SIGNS, M. KNIGHT should retire!). Take care my friend Lauren! FEAR ZONE was a rare breed: Reviews of comics, books, reviews, music, films, book trailers, humor, interviews with renowned filmmakers, horror television reviews and updates, paranormal, and live readings by the authors themselves. Plus, lots-and-lots of sexy horror women with big personalities, eyes, tits and their general disdain to clothing! I will miss FEAR ZONE and most of all the people who put their all into everything that got posted here. It was part of my daily rotine, even though my work took off immensely before and after FEAR ZONE and had to abandon writing for them entirely, I always felt I let prople down by publiczing the site at varios radio shows and seminars. All in all, I missed beeing a minute part of a wonderful thing...especially with my own beliefs in the Internet. Best to Lamberson, my favorite posts I read on here on a daily basis (where makes me cringe when I realize I could have worded that sentence in a better matter.) And that FEAR ZONE contributing guy who Was there from the beginning responsible for writing that Chas.Balun, Eli Roth Tiny Timpone and Oderus Urungus interview was really somekind of a vulgar,no-talent hack who should be writing instructional-guides on how to put lamps together...what a hack! With all the horror websites out there for the entire world to search and find, I honestly stand by my opinion when I say I will miss Fear Zone and I adore a world where it is in it... an thriving world. A world where Fear Zone no longer exsists makes me debate about weather getting out of bed or turning on my coputer ever again... if it wasn't for PORN I bid a sad farewell to Faezone and hope sometihing (which I don't think can be accomplished) will be back in cyberspace very soon. Not what site will I add to my daily routine. Best to you and the fam. Thanks Greg, LL, the filmmakers who still have their feet on the ground that allowed me to spend time with them and get a poorly written interview conducted. The ones without there feet firmly plated on the ground... I have plans for a collections of articles that will make $BIG BUCKS$. Thanks again to all involved. Saddened, Bryan C. Layne *
