Last Rites (Updated)
When I was hired to create and launch Fear Zone, I conceived it as a monthly magazine that would be doled out in daily doses. That being the case, you now "hold in your hands" what amounts to the Zone's final issue.

Traffic for this site remains exceptionally high (and we've shown a 40% increase over the last 3 months) and I know editors at other sites who would kill for our numbers. But this is a commercial venture, and advertising revenue on the web has dried up during the recession, and there's no stimulus money for horror websites...

I'll continue to post new content from our remaining contributors, who have loyally supported FZ to the end, through November. THE SITE WILL REMAIN LIVE, WITH ALL CONTENT ARCHIVED, FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE. At the home office, there is hope that we can re-launch when the market improves.

I want to thank Charles Sommer, who owns the site, for hiring me in the first place (over 700 other applicants), and for sticking with it for so long; I would have written this editorial six months ago if he didn't share my enthusiasm for what we've accomplished here. I also want to thank all of the contributors - too numerous to mention - who have made this site what it is - one of the smartest and best written horror entertainment sites on the web. And I especially want to thank you readers; there are a lot of you out there.

I'm proud of Fear Zone. This has been the best job I've ever had. It's been a great pleasure to have worked with so many talented people, and to have turned the spotlight on so many authors and filmmakers and their works - and to have had such a heavily frequented site on which to promote my own work. It was exciting to post our Video Exclusive interviews and author readings (which drew 3,000 - 5,000 viewers!); to post excerpts from novels; to serialize Benjamin Kane's SURGEON DELTA and especially Lee Thomas's novel DAMAGE. And I loved our ecclectic mix, which ranged from reviews of the finest contemporary horror literature to the most obscure indie films.

Thanks for reading and please stick around - there's still more to come. Let's make November a real horror party!

Best,
Greg Lamberson

1. Thanks for bringing some international flavor to the site, "Johnny." You and Nicanor Loretti and Lisa Morton and Michael Collangelo all showed that there's a lot more to horror than most of us in the U.S. and Canada realize. Ratticus, thanks for the kind words and for checking us out.
