Mario's Indie Horror Gallery: LIGHTS CAMERA DEAD
Aisthesis Productions *Screener Review* (2007 dir Tim Reaper)

It's "Less Bore... More Gore" as we follow the story of filmmaker Ryan Black (Wes Reid) and his screenwriter Steven Dydimus (J.C. Lira) as they try to pull off their latest horror project.

Ryan and Steven go through hours of auditions with actors. The actresses give them trouble and they all bicker and curse a lot. A bunch of other shortcomings on set occur and on the 666th day of production, the entire cast and crew is so fed up that they call it quits. Not being ones to give up so easily, Ryan and Steven are still bound determined to get their zombie masterpiece "The Music Box" finished. As a matter of fact, they are so determined that they will even resort to extreme measures to pull it off. First the editor ends up getting killed after he gets into an argument with one of them and the two decide they're going to finish the project as a snuff movie. They tell the remaining cast and crew members that the decided to go ahead and put the movie together as a short film and that it's done and ready to be screened. After luring the unknowing cast and crew to a house in the woods where they're expected to have the screening, somebody quickly turns up dead once the movie has started. Everyone panics and proceeds to run and hide. Ryan and Steven pick them off one by one while filming it all. Who will survive the night of madness and who will be left to see Ryan and Steven's masterpiece when it's finished?

LIGHTS CAMERA DEAD is a very entertaining, campy and quirky low budgeter that delivers in gore, nudity, and humor and manages to be a nice homage to slasher films. From the humorous audition scenes to the hilarious cast and crew fights to the frenzied, gore-soaked finale, Tim Reaper has created a picture that perfectly showcases the most painful elements of filmmaking and explores what would happen if the director of a picture actually went psycho and decided to do in his entire crew. The results are fun from beginning to end. Richard Christy from "The Howard Stern Show" even makes an appearance. Here's hoping Reaper's film finds a good distributor and that his next feature will be just as much fun.

1. I automatically dismiss any film other than THE OMEN that utilizes "666" in any way. It's become the ultimate cliche in horror.
