The New Sleestak
April 29, 2008
by Greg Lamberson
Same as the old Sleestak!
First pic from the big budget, big screen remake of the old Sid & Marty Krofft live action kids' show, LAND OF THE LOST. The new film, a comedy, stars Will Ferrell and a bunch of unknowns. OK, maybe it doesn't have suck a big budget.
But these Sleestak look DAMNED COOL!
The first season of the show was surprisingly intelligent because story editor David Gerrold lassoed a bunch of former STAR TREK writers to pen scripts. The show was also remade by the Chiodo Brothers in 1991, and while it featured some cool effects, they clearly did not grasp what made the original so charming.
All together now:
Marshall, Will, and Holly
On a routine expedition
Met the greatest earthquake ever known.
High on the rapids
It struck their tiny raft.
And plunged them down a thousand feet below.
To the Land of the Lost.
To the Land of the Lost.
To the Land of the Lost.

1. God, I remember watching that as a kid. The new Sleestak doesn't look much different then how I remember the originals looking. But it has been a while.

2. I loved this show when I was a little whippersnapper. Those sleestaks were TERRIFYING, I imagined them hiding in all of the dark places in my house... which the creepy old victorian had lots of, thanks to my overly stingy parents... the basement was particularly eerie, what with my dad burying all of those wriggling, screaming bundles under the floor every so often...
