5 Minute Horror Presents THE THING II
December 04, 2009
by Horror News
Cult horror website 5 Minute Horror, maker of the short films "Tasty", "The Accomplice" and "Supersex," will broadcast outtakes from Erik Phairas' fan film "The Thing II" as part of its ongoing "Test Reel" feature, on December 4h, 2009.
Test Reel streams special effects test footage, submitted by horror filmmakers from around the world. Earlier Test Reel video includes "Man Hit by Car" and "Bari's Exploding Head."
Says Craig Sabin, co founder of 5 Minute Horror, "We want 'Test Reel' to be educational as well as entertaining. Not only do you see blood and guts taken completely out of context, which is funny, you also see how the filmmakers do what they do. "
Bari K. Willerford, fellow co-founder, adds "It also gives us a chance to reach out to our filmmaker friends and let them show off what they're up to. And we get a front row seat."
"We love what Erik is doing," adds Willerford. "His film is a love letter to John Carpenter's 'The Thing,' (one of my favorite movies,) and we're honored to have it featured on our website."
"Erik is what horror filmmaking is all about. With $500 worth of latex and tape, he's made am incredible film," raves Sabin.
Erik Phairas, a resident of Las Vegas, shot "The Thing II" at work, casting co-workers on their way home. Says Phairas, "No prep time, it was 'Hey, you wanna be in our movie?" And that was it. The entire film, shown in four parts, can be seen on YouTube, as well as audio commentary.
5 Minute Horror, a website that features independently produced short horror films, was founded in 2006 by Robert Craig Sabin, star of the 1980s cult horror classic "Slime City", and actor/writer B. K. Willerford, last seen as Joe Louis in Ridley Scott's "American Gangster." The website features independently produced short horror films, as well as prose.
