The indie film, which features 1,000 separate zombie make-ups, is the third and most ambitious feature from the Buffalo based production company, following Bitez and Gore. Founding members Adam Steigert and Stephanie Andrews shared writing, directing, producing, and cinematography duties on all three productions, with Steigert editing.

THE FINAL NIGHT AND DAY was filmed in Western New York in the summer of 2010. The plot follows a group of corrections officers and escaped convicts fighting to survive during a zombie epidemic. For the film's biggest sequence, Steigert and Andrews shut down the main ... (more…)

Michael O'Hear's Vampire DUSK Begins Production
Buffalo thespian Michael O'Hear, who has racked up a large number of genre roles in the horror films GORE, HOUSE OF HORRORS, FRIGHTWORLD, SLIME CITY MASSACRE and the currently lensing THE FINAL NIGHT AND DAY and DECAYED, is now in poroduction on the vampire film DUSK, which he co-wrote with special make-up effects artist John Rena and filmmaker/novelist Gregory Lamberson.

O'Hear wrote a "juicy" lead role for himself as one half of a middle aged couple trapped in a stagnant marriage (Kim Piazza co-stars as Susan, the wife). When the husband meets sexy Zyanya (Celia Rosina) in a bar, she seems like just the ticket to some fresh blood... until she drinks his. And unfortunately for him, the ... (more…)

Fear Zone's Final Film Review: BURNING INSIDE
A man lays comatose while a nurse tends to him. The color image - pocked with film specks - gives way to stark, high contrast black and white cinematography. The man regains consciousness, with no memory of who he is or what happened to him, and is soon named "John Doe." He begins a new life, taking a wife, but is plagued by visions which may or may not be flashbacks of his past. Is he remembering a violent incident which led to his mysterious predicament, or is he merely imaging what might have been? It's an important question becuse "John" soon embarks on a violent path of revenge.

When was the last time you saw a film that truly made you think about what you were seeing on the screen?... (more…)

Adam Steigert: The GORE Guy
During the last few years, I've met a number of young filmmakers who have created feature length motion pictures in an autonomous fashion that would have made John Cassavetes envious. I'm talking about young people - fresh out of college, in college, and even in high school - who have written, produced and directed their own feature length horror films. They don't procrastinate and they don't allow lack of budget to deter them; they complete their films, and, thanks to the Internet, they have a means of distributing them. Most importantly, they learn from their mistakes and evolve as filmmakers.

Adam Steigert, a 22-year-old who lives in Hamburg, New York, outside Buffalo, is preparing for ... (more…)

Bloody Buffalo, New York: the New Indie Horror Capitol of the U.S.A.?
Pictured: Emil J. Novak's DECAYED - double click on image

Since the video boom of the 1980s, several locations throughout the U.S. have seen a concentration of geographical indie horror film production: Baltimore (Don Dohler), Ohio (J.R. Bookwalter), Pittsburgh, New Jersey, Florida, and so on. I'd like to add a new destination to that map: my home city of Buffalo, New York. Anyone who reads Fear Zone knows that I've been detailing the pre-production, production, and now post production of my new production, SLIME CITY MASSACRE. But my flick is really just the tip of the ice berg. A lot of feature length horror films are being made in my struggling city.

Horror is nothing new to this ... (more…)

Movie Zone: CA TUE (aka SILENCE WE ARE SHOOTING)
If you know anything about making movies, then you know it's not all fun and games...it's tons of hard work...just ask our editor-in-chief Greg Lamberson! Well, it's no different, no matter where you go, case in point, the new Belgian movie SILENCE CA TUE (Silence We Are Shooting).

SILENCE CA TUE is the story of a young Belgian filmmaker who's tired of trying to either find an investor for his film or get money from the government to help his production, so he gathers his friends and decides that his best avenue to get a film made is to make a documentary about getting a film made. He begins by gathering his friends and going to a party on the morning before his big meeting with a noted ... (more…)
